According to the American Academy of Pain Medicine, more than one-quarter of Americans (26%) age 20 years and over – or, an estimated 76.5 million Americans – report that they have had a problem with pain of any sort that persisted for more than 24 hours in duration. 

When your body is in discomfort it affects your mood, adrenals (stress-glands), energy, ability to do everyday tasks and your relationships.

Here are ways you can cause imbalances and discomfort in your body:

  • Repetitive movements especially on one side like golfing or tennis
  • Sitting for long periods of time
  • Crossing your legs as you sit
  • Running around and never stretching
  • Picking things up with your back and not your legs
  • Driving for many hours a day

Why does your body get stiff?

Your muscles are surrounded by this amazing connective tissue called Fascia.

Fascia is like saran wrap that wraps around all your muscles.

When you feel a knot, you are feeling tight fascia, not muscle.

As you age your fascia can get stuck and this will compromise walking, bending, turning and pretty much any physical activity you do.

When your body is tight it can cause pain, discomfort, and misalignments as you unconsciously try and compensate to keep yourself standing up straight.

If you do not correct the issue, misalignments can get worse!

This is why yoga is a wonderful activity that helps loosen facia and get you back into balance.
